Age Proof Your Hands

They obviously didn't follow my tips!

Even though we use them everyday, they are normally one of the forgotten parts of our body when it comes to looking after them and protecting them. Our hands are delicate and normally show the most damage. Here are some ways you can age proof your hands and make them look smooth, feel soft and look beautiful.

Wear Gloves
When washing the dishes, make sure you wear gloves. If you are doing just a quick wash and can't be bothered, make sure your dishwashing liquid includes moisturising ingredients. Most dishwashing liquids are now made for for either dry skin, or are gentler on your skin. If you are handwashing clothes, try to wear gloves since most clothes detergents are quite harsh.

Put a hand moisturiser in every room
Ok, this is a slight exageration but put one in places where you are most likely to need it. The best places are the kitchen, in the bathroom and in the bedroom. This way whenever you wash your hands, you will follow up with the hand cream to put back moisture into your skin.

Put sunscreen on the backs of your hands
Its up to you if you put your facial sunscreen, or a body one, but make sure you do this every day. Even if you aren't spending the day at the beach, your hands still get hit by the suns rays over the day. If you can fit a sunscreen in your bag, do it. Then you never have an excuse not to be wearing sunscreen.

Exfoliate the backs of your hands
Like the rest of your body, as you get older you need to exfoliate regularly to help with cell turnover. This includes your hands. Next time you are exfoliating your face or body, remember to put any excess onto the backs of your hands.

Serum for your hands
Add a drop of serum onto your hands at night to help them look soft and smooth. It can help with skin tone and lines (depending on what serum you use). I really like putting rosehip oil or vitamin E oil onto the backs of my hands. Vitamin A is great too. Just pierce the capsule and apply to your skin.

Have beautiful nails
When your nails are looking great no one will notice the skin on your hands!

If you are really desperate
You can get derma fillers and lasers to give plumper looking and more even looking skin. This is expensive, so use this as a last option. But if you look after your hands, you shouldn't need to take this step.

  1. This is all so true! I am pretty good with handcream (there is one in my handbag, bathroom and bedroom) but I don't always remember to use it.

My current favourite handcream is from Natio Wellness and has SPF 15 in it so it does a little bit to protect my hands. In the evenings after moisturising/seruming I always rub my hands so that they can absorb the goodness of the products xx

  3. Ingrid, I use that one too! Its so good :)

Sarah, I am slack with my one in the kitchen. I think its because i am constantly washing my hands while cooking and cleaning= I know I will just wash it off in 2 minutes!

  4. Perfect tips!

Another great tip is to Go for a hand cream with SPF 15 or higher to block harmful UV rays. Harmful UV rays causes the skin-plumping proteins like collagen and elastin to break down quickly. Here are some more tips for younger looking hands.
