This week I'm doing a "Embarrassing Bodies" post every day on some things that can happen to us and how to get rid of them. In this post I'm going to be writing about bad breath.
It can happen rarely, or everyday. If you struggle with bad breath (also known as Halitosis), it can impact every part of your life. From talking to even breathing, it can make simple tasks seem scary or difficult.
The main culprit of bad breath is food. Garlic, onion and tuna are the usual suspects. But also people who are obese or smoke are likely to suffer.
The easiest way of getting rid of bad breath is to either...
Brush your teeth
Floss
Scrub or brush your tongue
Use a mouth wash
Chewing gum or eating a mint
Of course some of these are just a temporary fix, but the best way is to scrap the bacteria off your tongue. There is also research that shows that if you suffer from gum disease you may also suffer with halitosis, so it is important to not only look after your teeth, but your whole mouth. Probiotics, which can help suppress the growth of bacteria, can also help with your bad breath.
If you are washing/scrubbing/eating well/flossing everyday and are still suffering from chronic bad breath, see a doctor or a dentist. They can inspect to see if there is a more serious problem. On the rare occasion, tonsils and your esophagus can be the issue.
Remember to clean your teeth twice a day, and replace your toothbrush regularly. And it's never a bad idea to have mints or gum in your bag!
XO
Thanks for a great post. I never walk anywhere without chewing gum in my bag and I also make sure to never eat food with onion in it at work. So far it's working:)
