How To: Using Colour Corrector To Disguise Redness

Thursday, 26 April 2012

For some, redness only happens due to embarrassment or sunburn. But for others, redness is always there. Redness is something I battle with, no matter what products I use. Some days it isn't very noticeable, while other days I look like a tomato!

I've heard some amazing things about Clinique's Redness Solutions Range, but I'm yet to try it. They have a cleanser, moisturiser, urgent relief cream and make up which helps to combat redness. Other people swear by using natural products, or mineral make up.

My personal favourite products to use are Akin's Pure Emergency Gel and Natio's Complexion Corrector. A'kin's product is a clear, gentle gel that sinks into the skin without leaving it greasy. It contains Chamomile and Aloe Vera to help to soothe the skin. I just apply it to the areas that are really red.

Natio's corrector is a green based liquid that contains Vitamin E, Jojoba and Chamomile which moisturisers, calms and protects your skin. The thing with green based concealers is that you need to use them sparingly. If you use too much your face will become green and you won't be able to conceal your Kermit the Frog skin! While you'll distract people from noticing your red skin, they will be staring at your green skin. Also apply where you really need it, not all over your face. If it's your forehead and cheeks that are red, apply the green based corrector there and leave the rest of your face bare. Then cover with tinted moisturiser/foundation/powder.

Smashbox and Napoleon NP Set also do a redness primer to help conceal redness. In my history of using green concealers, it's easier to use a liquid rather than a stick formula. The liquid seems to blend better. Also make sure you have clean skin that's been exfoliated, otherwise the green can get "stuck" on dry skin flakes and are very noticeable.

If your face is particularly red, try to stay away from red products on your face (eyes, lips, cheeks). Go for either a bronzed look or a nude look, otherwise it will just make your face look even redder.

If you battle with redness, what products do you use?

  1. I used to have a lot of redness on my cheeks but green correctors never worked for me because they were always too light for my skintone. lucky its calmed down since then and foundation usually does the job :)

    1. That's great that your skin has calmed down :) Correctors can be tricky. It's just about finding a good one that works for your skin tone.

  2. I try to get a lot of redness around my nose, especially in winter - so I may give a corrector like this one at try! xx

  3. Great tips! I'm not really prone to redness but it's always good to have these options from if/when I do! :)

  4. I've bought that NP Set anti-redness primer to use on my cheeks which are ALWAYS red, and then the occasional blemish... i hope it works better than a stick concealer, like you've said :)
