Priceline's Beauty Editor Workshops (30 Days of Fashion And Beauty)

The Priceline Van where anyone could come and get pampered

Last month, as apart of Priceline's 30 Days Of Fashion And Beauty, they were holding Beauty Editor Workshops. The workshops I went to were at held at Martins Place in Sydney.

The first one was with Mary Zavaglia, the beauty editor of Woman's Day. Woman's Day is directed more towards the 30+ demographic, so a lot of the tips were directed more towards anti aging and translating trends into more wearable versions for busy working women and mums. As you become older, and your features start to droop, it's even more important to make sure you're using blush in an upwards motion to bring up the face. The same with your eyes. Using a winged out eyeliner, can help to make your eyes seem wider and more uplifted. Mary also showed us how to make our lips more even, as the model had one lip naturally fuller than the other. Regardless of if it's your bottom or top lip, it's easy to make them more even with the use of concealer, lip liner and a gorgeous lipstick and lipgloss. Also using a primer really does make a huge difference to help filling in wrinkles and giving the illusion of plumper and younger skin. Mary gave me a lot of great tips on things I can do in the future as my face starts to age.

The second workshop was with Kelly Baker and Jessica Bell. Kelly Baker is the beauty editor for The Australian Women’s Weekly’s. What really struck me about Kelly was the fact that she wore minimal make up. I loved this! Just because someone is a beauty addict, it doesn't automatically mean they are crazy with their hair and make up. She is the definition of someone who is gorgeous from within. Jessica Bell is Priceline's lead make up artist and embassador. She lives and breathes make up and is so talented at bringing out the models best features. She can make a trend work by studying the model and what will work best with her colouring. Jessica's love of make up is infectious and you can't help but get excited when talking to her.

The beautiful Magda from All The Pretty Faces was chosen as a model and was brought out of her comfort zone by wearing a bright fuchsia lip.

One of the biggest tips they gave was about working on creating a flawless base. No matter what you do with your make up, the base is the biggest area and if it's not even then you won't notice a beautiful smokey eye or kickass red lip. A great base starts with great skincare. No matter your budget, investing time and money into a great skincare routine will do more than any make up can. Use make up wipes for late nights only, not every day use since they aren't as nourishing. Bedtime is the best time to apply serums and moisturisers because thats when your body regenerates and repairs the days damage.

They also encouraged us to try out new trends. Because at the end of the day, it's just make up and it washes off.

What I loved about the workshops is that they didn't just use one brand. No matter what your budget, there are so many different options. Also like Jessica pointed out, budget make up brands (like Australis, Face Of Australia, Models Prefer, Rimmel) can do amazing versions of high end trends. You don't have to go to Dior to get quality make up. I actually prefer, especially when I'm trying out a new trend like coloured eyeliner, to go for a cheaper version. That way I haven't wasted $50 on a product I will only wear once or twice.

We also got a sneak peak of a new Australis product Mineral High Lights Face Illuminator. It comes in 2 colours. A pinky pearl for cool tones and a gold for warmer skintones. I NEED this in my life and have been stalking my local Priceline for it. I know it's released in October, but my local store hasn't got it yet. Jess showed a lot of people it, so if you see it scoop one up quickly as you'll have a lot of people wanting it. In the meantime, I bought the Models Prefer Illuminator so I can see how they compare once I have the Australis version.

Are you all about drugstore products, or do you prefer high end?

  1. I prefer drugstore, they're cheaper and I find so many of them have quality that's comparable to high-end products.

    1. There are some great drugstore products out there!! A lot of my make up is bought from Priceline. Although it's nice to splash out on highend sometimes. It makes it more special when it's a sometime treat :)

  2. Looks like a great event, I would have loved to be there as well.
I use a combination of drugstore and high-end brands, it really depends on what it is.
