Antipodes "Performance Plus Mineral Foundation" and Kabuki Brush Review

Monday, 21 October 2013

This year I've really been trying to use more natural products and trying to learn more about the ingredients that are in my skincare and make up.

One brand that I've come to love is Antipodes. While their skincare is talked about by bloggers, I haven't heard much about their make up.

In the make up range they have a mineral foundation powder, translucent skin brightening mineral finishing powder and 6 lipstick shades.

I was sent their mineral foundation and kabuki brush to trial and I'm absolutely in love with them.

Unlike a liquid foundation, it's impossible (and impractical) to apply powder foundation with your hands. It's important to use the right brush with mineral powder, so you get the best result and are left with a flawless base that's not cakey or dry.

The instruction are simple and easy to follow. If you haven't used mineral make up before, the way to get perfect application is to apply light layers and buff the powder in using circular movements.

To get the best result, they've used natural hair for the brush. This is because it holds the powder without making it clumpy. The natural hair makes it easier to buff out the powder and leaves your foundation looking natural instead of obvious and clumpy.

The brush is smaller than other kabuki brushes that I own, but is still big enough to work quickly and easily. I find because it's smaller, it's great for around your nose.

I love the detailing on the bottom of the kabuki brush

The brush retails for $29.95.

This mineral foundation contains SPF 17. I always wear sunscreen, but it's always nice to have a little bit of extra sun coverage.

There are 4 shades available. I received "Pale Pink," which is the lightest shade.

Because it only lasts 6 months from opening the jar, it's important to use it often so you don't waste the product.

I love the packaging. The silver lid on the clear base looks very chic and luxe.

The foundation contains Vinanza Performance Plus. It's an antioxidant-packed extract from sauvignon blanc grape seeds and the skin of kiwifruit that helps to stop water loss and keeps your skin hydrated. It also contains eco-certified natural bismuth oxychloride which prevents irritation, so it's perfect for sensitive skin.

It's a foundation that does it all. It helps to hide redness of the skin, it contains earth minerals to balance oil on your skin and contains SPF 17. You're in control of the coverage, which makes this great for any occasion.

It's a lightweight formula that you can build up for more coverage.

I've also mixed it with primer to make a lightweight tinted moisturiser. It worked well, although I did need extra coverage over my red cheeks. I've used this as setting powder too, since it's good for oilier skin.

I love that I can use this and let my skin breathe, without having to go make up free. When you have blemishes, the last thing that you want to do is wear a heavy foundation and this foundation is perfect to help cover them, without making them look or feel worse.

One of my favourite things about this, has to be the stopper. I've used other mineral powders that don't have a stopper and it's made A LOT of mess, especially if you are travelling, so I love that this keeps the product safe and mess free.

The mineral foundation retails for $39.95.

Antipodes have a translucent powder that helps your foundation to last longer and keep your finish matte. You can see it here.

  1. I've switched to lighter coverage products lately and I'm loving the feel of it especially with the warmer weather. I'm still not totally in love with the thought of mineral foundations but it's handy it has the seal on it to stop it being sooo messy.

  2. Great review Amy. I have never tried any Antipodes products before but after reading your review I am really interested in learning more. I am also trying to use more natural products and am loving exploring the mineral makeup brands that I have this year.

  3. That looks lovely! SPF 17 sounds like a bit of a random number, though! That kabuki brush is gorgeous.

  4. This sounds great but I'm just curious what they mean by natural brush? Because I only use synthetic brushes personally!

  5. I didn't know that Antipodes did makeup too. This foundation looks beautiful. I'm using Bare Minerals (they have a stopper in the jar now too) and I love it but it's always fun to see what else is out there. The kabuki brush looks beautiful too. I can tell how soft it is from the picture:) x
