Garnier "5 Second Perfect Blur" Primer Review

This is one of the items that I picked up when Priceline had their 40% off skincare sale (you can see what else I picked up here).

I really wasn't quite sure what to expect about this as surprisingly I hadn't heard anything about the product besides seeing a picture of it on Priceline's FB page.

I was in a hurry when I picked up the products and didn't really check out what the box said. But from my quick look, I was expecting it to be similar to Nanoblur.

Now I'm going to say that this is much more effective than Nanoblur when it comes to combining it with make up. Nanoblur is great if you don't wear make up, but I found that it didn't give me a flawless base underneath make up.

The Garnier 5 Second Perfect Blur is perfect under make up, but can also be used alone. I like to use it either over my sunscreen or moisturiser.

I've heard a lot of people say that it's a dupe for Benefit's Porefessional. I've only used Porefessional twice and wasn't a fan. I'm not sure if it was the sample I had, but I found it very thick and very heavy.
It feels similar in texture to Benefit's Porefessional. It's has a thick(ish) silicone feel. It's really easy to rub into the skin and "sets" quickly. My skin feels soft and smooth after applying this and it doesn't feel heavy on top of my skin. I normally use a 5c-10c sized piece all over my face and down my neck.

I'm going to burst Garnier's bubble and say that it doesn't work in 5 seconds. I would say in about a minute or two I see a difference. I suffer from redness and uneven skintone and it's my main concern. After a minute or two, I find that there's a 25-30% improvement in the redness.

I've been using this in conjunction with the Covergirl 3 in 1 Foundation. While that foundation has an inbuilt primer, I still like to use this as I find my skin looks nicer when I use it and I end up using less foundation and concealer.  I've also used this as a primer underneath the Revlon ColorStay Whipped Cream Foundation and found that it worked well underneath it.

I can't really comment about it visibly reducing the wrinkles as I don't have them all over my face, just around my eyes and I keep this away from my eyes.

While it might sound strange, it has light reflectors in it but it also stops shine. It's a matte formula so you won't be left with glowing skin. Instead you are left with radiant skin, because it does help to reduce any imperfections without using shimmer.

One thing I love about Garnier products is the amount of information on the box. If you're trying to decide instore if a Garnier product is suitable for you, 99% of the time the outer packaging lets you know straight away if it's for you or not.

I agree with their claims that my skin appears smoother, more radiant, has a more consistent complexion and it made my skin looked improved.

I like the packaging. It's easy to use and is hygienic. It does seem quite small (22ml), but it's very affordable at only $16.99 here in Australia. Priceline regularly have Garnier on sale as well as Chemist Warehouse, so I would suggest picking this up on sale if it becomes a staple in your beauty routine.

It's a great product to use if you're on a budget or are wanting to use less products in the morning, since it not only makes your skin appear clearer but is also a good primer.

L'Oreal also have a similar product here that will be available later in Oz in 2014, and I'm curious to see how it holds up. It's $24.95 in the US and I expect it will be similar to the price of Nanoblur in Australia (maybe selling for between $30-$40). There is also an oil free version available in the US.

Have you picked this up?

  1. Awesome! I've been waiting for an aussie look on this, as I was worried about the light reflectors in it, but you've pretty much convinced me to run out and purchase one. Thanks!

  2. I haven't heard much about this either but from your review, it sounds awesome! I have some rednes and uneven skin tone and texture so I might have to give this a go! Did you notice this helping with the wear of your makeup at all? Prolonging it or controlling oil throughout the day?

    1. I found that it worked just as good as the other primers that I owned. I never felt like I needed to apply a primer over or underneath this for extra staying power.

    1. I really want to try that too. It's a shame about the price. Bring on the Priceline 40% off skincare promo ;)

  9. Loved the review. But the US price is not accurate. I bought mine last night and paid $12.99. That was not a sale price.
