Late last year, Priceline started stocking the brand Luma. I picked up some when Priceline had 40% off cosmetics (see my haul here). As I hadn't really heard much about the brand, and didn't want to spend a lot of money on something I didn't know much about, I picked up 3 products.
The brand was created by Jess Hart, who's an Australian model. She worked for 2 years on creating naturally derived products that are free from parabens, mineral oil, sulphates and that aren't tested on animals.
If you have a look at the products, there's no crazy colours or out there looks in the promo photos. Luma is all about enhancing your natural beauty, not creating a completely different look.
Because I wasn't sure about the range, I picked up just 3 products. A cream illuminator, blush and lipgloss.
Because there were testers, I was able to see instore how they swatched and translated on my light skintone.
You can see that the Illuminating Highlighter in "Natural Pearl" (top swatch) is a beautiful, soft colour that's not too pink, silver or gold. Even though they only have one colour available, it will suit a lot of different skintones. Unlike something like theBalm's Mary-Lou Manizer, it's not too shiny or sparkly.
It sinks into the skin quickly and easily and it's hard to go overboard with it. If you're new to illuminators, then this is a wonderful product to try.
I do hope that eventually they come out with a powder highlighter, as I do prefer them over creams.
In the middle, we have the Powder Blush in "Soft Peach." I've mentioned this in my Best New Beauty Releases of 2014 post here. It's a highly pigmented blush that lasts all day (even in the 30/40 degree heat Adelaide is currently having).
The colour is gorgeous. It's an apricot colour that isn't too pink or orange, so it can suit a lot of skintones. It does give you a subtle shine, so I normally will skip a highlighter when I use this.
A little bit goes a long way, so I apply this with a tapered blush brush to make sure that I don't apply too much.
And finally we have the Natural Shine Lipgloss in "Sheer Red." It surprisingly packs a lot of pigment for a lipgloss. It's glossy without being too goopy or sticky. While I like the lipgloss, I don't love it. I wish I had picked up their Sheer Lipstick instead as I think that I would use it more.
I adore the packaging as it's a mix of girly (light pink) but also practical (the blush and illuminator come with a mirror).
The highlighter and blush both retail for $24.95. The highlighter is quite small, but the blush is amazing value for money. It's HUGE!!! The lipgloss is $14.95.
After trying out these 3 products, I'll pick up some more when Priceline have them on sale next. I have my eye on the Sheer Lipstick, Bronzing Powder and the other blush colour.
Myer also sell the Luma range, as well as the online Luma store here.
Have you tried any Luma products yet? What would you suggest I pick up next?

I'm yet to check out this range - my Priceline isn't stocking them. The blush does look absolutely stunning though. The colour is amazing and I love a blush with good lasting power.

It's so beautiful. It's a blush and highlighter in one!! I'm sure you'll hear more about the brand in 2015 as more and more people fall in love with them :)
DeleteWhat are your thoughts on this luma highlighter vs. the Australis one you reviewed (a few years ago?)
ReplyDeleteThe Luma one for sure!!! It's much easier to use and it's more travel friendly.
