The Big Beauty (Blender) Blunder of 2015

Thursday, 2 July 2015

When it was announced that Sephora was coming to Australia, every Australian beauty addict was like this...

But since they've come to Australia they've managed to piss off quite a few beauty lovers. They currently only have 1 store in Australia, low stock instore, no online store, they don't have their VIB program up and running and now they've signed an exclusivity contract with Beautyblender.

As of the 1st of August, Sephora will be the only business to sell Beautyblender products in Australia. For anyone outside of Sydney, the only way you'll be able to purchase Beautyblender products is to either make a very expensive trip to Sydney or try and purchase online from overseas. I'm not sure if places like Luxola will have restrictions on shipping Beautyblender products to Australia as some brands have this when they're exclusive to stores.

Many small Australian online retailers will be effected by this exclusivity agreement. If you're wanting to support these brands, buy up big and order from them before they're no longer able to sell BB any longer.

Here's a list of online stores that you can support and purchase BB products from.

I've heard that the online stockists had no prior notification of this agreement and were just told they weren't able to order anymore stock, so some of these online stores have a small amount of stock left or are sold out of some of the BB products.

I've already purchased a BB from Ry.com.au as well as their solid cleanser and I'm tempted to purchase more!

What are your thoughts about this? Have you been to the Sydney Sephora? Did it live up to your expectations?
Amy, XO

PS Beautyblender just released this amazing product. I can't wait for my hubby to go overseas so I can force him to go to Sephora to buy one for me ;)

  1. Oh my, that must be really disappointing . I've never used beauty blender products before but am tempted to try. shipping to Malaysia cost bombs though

  2. I heard about this and was pretty pissed off! I haven't tried the Beauty Blender yet, nor am I /that/ eager to, but now that it's exclusive to Sephora, I probably won't be trying it anytime soon! Very annoying, and I'm sure detrimental to the small businesses :(

  3. Ah dear, yet another example of Sephora being greedy & not wanting to share with the other kids. Their business philosophy appears to be "you can't sit with us", if you get my drift.

I have been into the Sydney store & yep, another disappointed customer here. About the only thing I would consider buying from them in Oz is a perfume rollerball (Elizabeth & James' Nirvana White, I like it), but even then I could probably wait for another overseas trip as I have a whole heap of other perfumes to finish off. It seems strange to me that they haven't built another store out here yet, what with other multi-nationals popping up left right & centre every other week (Uniqlo being one that I can think of).

  4. Thank you for this post!! I have been thinking of getting the cleanser and maybe another BB. I hate having to go into the city just for Sephora so it's not ideal. I've only been in the store once and I wasn't really wow-ed but their service was lovely.

  5. I'm extremely peeved about the Sephora situation at the moment because of the lack of online shopping - I don't think I'll be rushing the rumoured Melbourne store opening (apparently in Chadstone shopping centre) either at this point. I can see that Mecca isn't in any danger losing customers as long as they hold onto the rights to sell their current line of brands!

  6. I was really frustrated by this and had a bit of a go at them over their social media on Instagram. They kind of didn't understand what I was trying to say though and kept feeding me lovely scripted crap about how they can't wait to get to Melbourne and other cities. It's a really sad notion that a lot of smaller, personalised companies such as Ry.com.au and the others are going to be taken over by this giant corporation who are totally ignoring the actual consumers.
Seriously when they do open in Melbourne, it'll be more than likely in Chadstone which is all the way on the other side from me and impossible for me to get to so it'll be just as bad anyway! I'm peeved :(

  7. This article isn't entirely accurate. beautyblender is available at both Sephora and crushcosmetics.com.au Source: http://www.beautyblender.com/international-locations

  8. I have not been to Sydney Sephora but heard a lot of disappointment from all Aussie beauty lovers. I am waiting for Sephora in Melbourne. I believe in sharing is caring though, no idea why the need for an exclusive agreement?

  9. Sephora is very disappointing. I was really looking forward to their multi packs in the US where you spend $50 - 100 and you get to try almost 10 products. e.g. Nars lipstick, caudalie face spray, YSL concealer and MORE for $49!! Why can't we get those here??

And if you are a member from overseas like the US, they won't redeem your points and vice versa.

    Useless.

I will have to continue to buy overseas.
