Beauty Bites #9: My Weekly Beauty Wrap Up

Sunday, 23 August 2015

I've really been trying to shop my stash this week and pull out some of my older products that I barely use. I'm currently doing a clean out so using these products has given me the opportunity to decide whether to bin them or keep them a little bit longer.

I'll do a post on my stash once I've been able to sort through it :)

Now onto my weekly favourites...

My Most Worn Beauty Products...

I'm loving the Max Factor CC Cream* for effortless coverage. I've been applying it most days as I can wear it without primer and without using brushes. I set it with the Bourjois Healthy Balance Compact Powder.

I've been getting dark circles under my eyes this week so I've been using the Dr LeWinn's Skin Perfect Anti-Aging Concealer. It feels quite hydrating and light on my skin. I only use this around my eyes as it's too light to cover imperfections and uneven skintone.

I've been using the Cocoa Brown By Marissa Carter Chocolate Whip Oil-Free Body Moisturiser* every morning and it's really surprised me. I thought that it would smell like chocolate/cocoa (similar to the Palmer's moisturiser) but this has a really fresh scent. It reminds me of cucumber or avocado. It's a very "crisp" scent and I really love it!

My lips have been really dry lately due to the cold weather so I've been using the Lanolips 101 Ointment in "Peach" a lot! I really wasn't sure if I'd like this as I just finished the Banana Balm from Lanolips (see below) and wasn't a fan of it. But I really love this!! It's a clear, glossy lipbalm.

I normally use the MooGoo natural deodorant but bought the LAVANILA The Healthy Deodorant in "Pure Vanilla" from the Natural Supply Co (see my haul here) recently and I ADORE it. Its a stick deodorant while the MooGoo one is a cream. If it's on your wishlist, go order it now! You won't regret it :)

I was recently sent some Paul Mitchell products and one item that really surprised me was the Paul Mitchell Forever Blonde Conditioner.* It leaves my hair SO incredibly soft and smooth. The way it leaves my hair is almost like a mask, but it's so light on my hair. If you have fine hair, you need this in your life.

I also want to mention the new Real Techniques Bold Metals Collection. I purchased 4 brushes and am really enjoying using them. I've got a review coming up this week.

Empties...

I've been able to finish quite a few empties this week. Some products I've been glad to finish, while others are bittersweet.

Firstly I was sad to finish up my Molton Brown Renew Ambrusca Cleansing Shower Oil* as well as the Zk'in Brightening & Hydrating Masque.* The shower oil smells amazing and feels so luxurious on my skin. The face mask smells like chocolate and helps to make my skin glow. I recommend both of these.

Another product that I love (which is a repurchase) is the OGX Nourishing Coconut Milk. Sadly it's been discontinued so I'm finding it harder and harder to find (sad face!!).

I also used up the Lanolips Banana Balm. While I love Lanolips, this one has a light yellow tint that shows up on my lips so I could only use it at home or I looked like a weirdo. The scent is amazing!! I'd recommend it for a night lip balm, just not a daytime one.

I used this evo Self Indulgence Body Creme sample that I received as a GWP. While it was nice I don't love it enough to purchase it.

And lastly I used up the Toni & Guy Cleanse Dry Shampoo. I used to LOVE this but lately I've found it too heavy on my hair. I'm not sure if it's post pregnancy related or if they've changed the formula, but I just didn't enjoy using it.

I've also been using up some of my candles and finished 3 this week! One that I didn't like when I first used it was the Ecoya Vanilla Bean Natural Soy Fragranced Candle. Its a really subtle candle. At first I could barely smell it but as I used it I really liked the soft burn.

My favourite candle that I've ever bought is the Vela Aroma Burnt Fig & Cassis Soy Wax Candle. It smells homely and just fills the room. I've already bought another one as it's the perfect winter scent.

Another amazing candle that I finished is the Natio "Relaxing Bouquet" Soy Candle. Natio candles are completely underrated. They're so affordable at $24.95 with a 60 hour burn time. The scents are amazing and fill up a large room easily. If you haven't tried one, pick one up!

Disappointing products...

Nothing has disappointed me as I've been using old and new favourites.

Best sale...

David Jones has a Natio GWP when you spend $38 or more. There are 2 gift bags to choose from. Maybe you could pick up one of their candles ;)

What I'm lusting after...

Some new storage. I want to change up my storage since I'm trying to declutter my stash. If I can try and reduce my stash by half, I might splash out and buy nicer acrylic draws than I currently have.

My favourite youtuber or blogger...

Sheryl from MsCHIKEE has a gorgeous blog that has beauty, lifestyle and fashion. She has a very cute family and I love her beauty advice as she knows how hard it is to get ready when you've a little one that you've also got to get ready. Check her out!

On my mind...

Should I get my haircut now or wait a few weeks. I'm growing my hair so I don't want to cut off the growth since my last cut, but at the same time I don't want to ends looking gross.

How often do you get your haircut?

  1. I've heard numerous (mostly good) things about the LAVANILA deodorants, I might purchase one at some stage. I've got both the strawberry & plain Lanolips & I prefer the plain one, purely because I think I may be having a reaction every time I wear the strawberry.

I don't get my hair cut (or coloured for that matter) as often as I should - generally every 2 1/2-3 months I'm at the hairdresser. I went to mine at the end of last week & feel sooooo much better for it. My hair has a tendency to get heavy after a while (the joys of having fine-but-lots-of-it hair), so it was nice to cut a bit off & also have it thinned out + have my colour refreshed.
