What's In My "5 Minute Make Up Bag"

Saturday, 29 August 2015

Being a mum means that I can't take my time getting ready anymore. Gone are the days when I could take an hour or more picking out what to wear and how to wear my hair and make up. Mornings are chaotic in our house and some days getting out of the door can be a really big struggle.

I have my make up in my "blogging room" as my hubby calls it. But as my stash keeps getting bigger and bigger, it means that I can feel overwhelmed by choice. When you have 50 blushes (a slight exaggeration... or possibly not!), it sometimes just takes too long to decide what make up to wear.

The way that I can still look (somewhat) put together in the morning is by having my "5 minute make up bag" containing everything that I need. This way I don't need to stand in front of my stuff rummaging around deciding what to use.

I love my Mecca Cosmetica Jet Set Cosmetics Bag because I can fit a lot of things in it without it being the size of a suitcase. I try to swap around my cosmetics so I'm not using the same things every day.

Here's what's in my bag...

I really love the Innoxa Skin Perfecting CC Primer to help prime my skin. It's a purple/lavender based primer which helps to reduce redness. I also like that it's not a silicone primer, so it feels really light on my skin.

For me, I like using a BB or CC cream on those hectic mornings. The beauty of a BB/CC cream is that you can just apply it with your hands, it's quick and easy to use and most look fantastic even if you skip using a primer. I'm currently using the Max Factor CC Cream* or the Mary Kay CC Cream Sunscreen SPF15.*

I'm adoring the Bourjois Healthy Balance Compact Powder to help set my make up, stop shine and to also give me added coverage.

One palette that I adore is the Napoleon Perdis Nude U - Eyes, Cheeks & Brows Palette.* It's a mostly matte palette that has a great range of nude colours. Like the name suggests, you can use it all over your face. It's a fantastic palette to have in my 5 minute bag because it has enough colours to create different looks but is still neutral and wearable which is important when I'm doing the kindy run.

If I don't use the Napoleon palette to do my brows then I love to use a brow gel. You would have seen the Benefit Gimme Brow* A LOT in my instagram FOTD pictures here. It's a bit pricey, but worth every cent. If you're on a budget, I really love the ModelCo More Brows. It's the closest to the Benefit gel that I've found.... but half the cost!

I find that having the ModelCo Lash & Line Superlash Mascara + Liquid Liner* in my bag so handy because I can either just use the mascara if I'm running late or use the eyeliner if I have an extra minute or two to spare. The mascara on this is fantastic!! The wand is curved and gives the illusion of false lashes.

I like to use the Luma By Jess Hart Powder Blush in "Soft Peach" because it's a gorgeous pinky peach that helps to brighten my complexion. You can see swatches of it here.

I also love the Hourglass Ambient Lighting Blush Palette because it gives me 3 blushes to choose from.

Half of the time I'm getting ready while holding Scarlett in one hand (who is trying to grab my mascara as I'm applying it) and applying products with the other, so by the time I get to my lips I'm over it. That's why I tend to stick with tinted lip balms. Lately I've been loving using the Lanolips Lemonaid Lip Aid, the new Maybelline Baby Lips Candy Wow or the Max Factor Colour Intensifying Balm.* The Maybelline and Max factor balms are great because I can make a mistake and my make up wont get ruined like it would with a lipstick. I normally will pop it in my jacket/cardigan so I can reapply in a couple of hours.

And those are the products that I love using when I'm in a hurry. I just do a basic look as I don't have the time to apply contour, highlight or precise lipstick.

Do you have a bag full of your everyday make up essentials?

  1. I love this idea! I have a 2 year old and agree that you have to use your 'make up time' wisely! Also, I wish I had that ambient lighting palette :( I will definetly be getting the new holiday one when it comes out.
