From the first time that I bought a foundation, I've had issues finding a colour match. A lot of the time, brands don't offer colours light enough for pale skin and for darker skin tones they don't offer a range of dark colours.
Some brands do have a white colour liquid pigment that you can use in your foundation (eg MAC and Illamasqua) but then you're having to spend $100+ just to get a foundation light enough (not to mention the mess factor of having to mix your colour every day).
Luckily The Body Shop have released an affordable option for those of us that have pale skin. The Lightening Shade Adjusting Drops retail for $29.95 here in Australia. They're made for The Body Shop foundations, but I've been using it in 4 of my non Body Shop foundations.
I first tried it in my L'Oreal True Match Foundation. The shade I bought is on the yellow side and is slightly too dark for me. I normally add a drop to help lighten the foundation and also neutralise the yellow undertone.
I was a bit worried that it would change the formula of the foundation and impact the way it looks and feels but I haven't noticed that.
The drops are white with a slight pink undertone. I was slightly worried that it would make my pink based foundations look even pinker, but the white keeps it from being too pink.
I've also used it with the Rimmel Match Perfecting Foundation. My shade is on the pink side and is nearly a perfect shade, but I just add in half a drop to make it a slightly bit lighter.
Another foundation that I've used it with was the Covergirl Ready Set Gorgeous Foundation. I haven't had any issues with the drops causing separation or it affecting the longevity of the foundation.
I've applied half a drop and even 3 drops and have been so impressed with how effective it's been in changing a foundation from too dark to just perfect!
This is great for anyone that has trouble with finding a shade light enough or for someone who fake tans and needs a more affordable option than buying 2-3 different shades of the same foundation.
I haven't tried the darker shade dropper (or obvious reasons) but I'd assume it would work just as well as the lightener.
The only complaint I have with this is the dropper. It's not the best as it doesn't suck up much of the formula. If it had a better dropper, it would be the perfect product.
Do you have issues finding the perfect foundation shade?

This is genius! Do they have it only in white shade? I have not seen this in my local TBS shop (Malaysia). Would love to try this if it comes in different shade. ;)
ReplyDeleteCheck out my blog! http://azwaa.blogspot.com
They also have it in a dark shade, although I haven't tried it. It looks like it would be great for darkening up foundations that are too light.
DeleteOhhh ive never heard of this product before i usually get two of the same drugstore foundations while they are on sale, light shade for winter and dark shade for summer... ill mix them together if i have some ofd ball months :)

I wish that I could do that but most drugstore foundations are too dark, even their lightest shade :(
DeleteI've been seeing so much buzz about this but I think your review has sold me on it. I have a few foundations that are perfect in every way - except they're slightly too yellow. It's so good to know these drops are cheap enough to grab, too!

It's completely worth it, especially if you have a draw full of foundations that are too dark!
DeleteSuch good news that there's an affordable product to help change the shade of foundations. I wonder how dark the dark shade is? I have a couple of foundations that were matched to me when I was less tan and now look funny when I want to wear it. At the moment I just mix different foundations together haha.

I'm not sure about the dark version, but check it out instore if you can :)
DeleteThis is awesome! I have trouble finding the right foundation colours (I'm so pale). Thank you!
ReplyDeleteIsn't it sooooo annoying!! Everything is too dark or too pink or yellow #paleskinproblems
DeleteI heard about this recently & thought "what kind of genius is this?", since I have problems with finding the right foundation shade as well - the curse of being fair with cool-toned skin! It's a market that's not well catered for unfortunately.
ReplyDeleteI completely agree. Some brands seem to think us cool toned girls are straight up pink!!
DeleteI didn't even know about this product until I saw your Instagram post! GENIUS!
ReplyDeleteI'm sure there's going to be a lot of dupes over the next year headed into Priceline!
DeleteSuch a great idea! I don't like having to mix two foundations to get that middle shade so I think I'll have to buy this instead!
ReplyDeleteIt's great because you can use it with soooo many foundations. Now you don't have to buy two colours from the same brand :)
