First Impressions Review: Priceline 40% Off Make Up Haul Featuring Samantha Jade x Models Prefer

Last week Priceline had their 40% off make up sale. I'm going to Sydney this weekend for IMATs and a Bloggers United AU blog event so I told myself that I could only pick up one or two things....

We all know how well that goes!!!

Luckily I was quite restrained. Here's what I picked up.

The Samantha Jade x Models Prefer collaboration wasn't supposed to hit stores until after the sale, but some stores put it out while the 40% sale was on. The products weren't even on my radar until I saw on Instagram that some people bought them at the sale and then I HAD to have them!!!

Samantha Jade is an Australian singer who won X Factor a few years ago. When I first heard about this collab it made no sense to me until I found out she worked as a make up artist before the X Factor!

The collection is really well thought out. There's a brush set, contour kit, eye shadow palette, brow kit, highlighting palette, liquid eyeliner and a liquid lipstick set. There's enough products to release a decent collection and the products range from $9.95 to $49.95.

I saw on Instagram the Strobing Palette and instantly knew that I had to have it. There are 6 shades that will suit different skintones. There are 5 things that I adore this palette.

1. They're really pigmented and so so smooth. They have an almost creamy texture even though they're a powder.

2. They've included a pearly green based shade as well as a lavender shade which isn't easily available from most drugstore brands.

3. The palette is slim and lightweight so it's easy to store and also travel with.

4. Because of their creamy texture, they're amazing eyeshadows!

5. They're not glittery. Even though they're really pigmented they can still look very natural and glowy if you only apply a very small amount. I like to apply it with a tulip brush (like my Marc Jacobs Bronzer Brush, Artiste Airbrush Mega Powder/Bronzer Brush or the Models Prefer Highlighting & Contour Brush). When I apply it with a tulip brush rather than a dome or angled shape, I find that it makes it less likely that I'll go overboard and look like a disco ball.

I only gentle swiped these on once and you can see just how pigmented they are, especially the bottom row of shades.

The palette retails for $19.95, so it's really affordable. My only complaint about it is the fact that it doesn't have a mirror in the palette. It instead has instructions. Considering there's a brochure in the box, I feel like a mirror would have been better than a how to on the lid.

Also one small detail that annoys me is the fact that the brushes have gold ferrules on them, but the button on the brush holder is silver. It's such a tiny detail, but it kills me that they don't match!

Another thing that I picked up from the collection was the Brush Set. It contains 6 brushes in a travel cylinder. I've found that most of the newer Models Prefer brushes are amazing. Their face brushes are great so I knew that this kit would be a winner.

The store I went to didn't have any of the range out, so I actually bought this without knowing what brushes were included!!

In the kit there is a ...
Powder Brush
Multi Tasker Brush
Angled Contour brush
Eyeshadow Brush
Blending Brush
Brow/Angled Eyeliner Brush

They've done a great job of making the brushes easy to use for beginners while also making it a must have kit for those of use who already have too many brushes.

The eye brushes are really soft and easy to use. The eyeshadow and blending brushes are lovely to use. They're not too big which is a plus for me as I have small eyes.

The eyeliner/brow brush is a little bit longer than the other brushes I have. It's soft and yet doesn't move too much when you're applying eyeliner. People are very particular about their eyeliner brushes, so I think the length is something that people will either love or hate.

The face brushes are amazing. They're so soft and feel lovely on your skin. The face brushes in this set are even softer than the other face brushes they sell and those brushes are soft and beautiful to use.

I adore angled brushes for applying blush, so I was really excited to see this in the kit.

Personally I do think that they should have swapped the Powder brush for a tulip tipped brush like their Powder brush in their normal line. The shape of the Powder and the Multi-Tasker brush is the same, but the Multi is slightly smaller. I feel like it would have been better to include a different shape rather than the same brush in 2 different sizes.

Overall the brush set is awesome! While I have a few things that I would change about it, this is coming from someone who adores brushes and owns A LOT!!! This set would be perfect for most people and they wouldn't find the things that I don't like an issue.

The eyeshadow palette is a nude palette that has a mix of matte and shimmer shades. The shadows feel really creamy and are a similar consistency to the highlighting palette.

The shadows are easy to apply and easy to blend. The eyeshadow palette is only $17.95, which is a great price for the palette. It's a smart move to have a neutral eyeshadow as a lot of Priceline customers who are looking for palettes in store wouldn't be looking for something bold like a UD Vice palette.  I would love to see them branch out and release more variations.

The palest shade is a bit crumbly, but I found the rest of the shades were fine. Like most drugstore eyeshadows, the shimmers were better quality than the mattes. Also I would suggest using an eyeshadow primer or a cream shadow to give longer lasting results and brighter pigment.

After using these SJ x MP products, I now want to pick up more from the range! I know that the range is hugely popular (my Insta is filled with Aussie bloggers that are in love with the products) so if you see them in store, then pick them up ASAP before they sell out!

I really hope that they do a part 2. There's so many other great product that they could add to the collection.

Even though Essence is super affordable, I found their new Me & My Umbrella Collection in store and had to pick it up. Essence collections are so difficult to pick up in store. They always sell out quickly so I made sure that I picked up the blush.

I adore Essence blushes and their limited edition ones are so cute. I love the embossing on the blush!!

I also picked up their cream pencil contour kit from the new collection. They're so small and adorable! I love how creamy they feel. They're easy to apply and blend like a dream. I do wish that they had different shades available as a one colour fits all doesn't work!If you're light to medium this kit will work for you.

And finally I picked up a new lip stick. I adore Bourjois lipsticks. They're hydrating, long lasting and are really affordable. They released 4 new red shades so I picked up one of them. If you've never used a Bourjois lipstick, then make sure you pick up one on your next Priceline visit!

So as you can see, I picked up more than one thing, but I didn't go crazy either!!!

Did you pick up anything at the sale?

  1. Awesome haulage! I picked up a few items from the sale too, I just posted about my haul on my blog! I saw the Samantha Jade collection in store (I had no idea she was a MUA!) and was intrigued. I swatched the highlighter palette and it was so gorgeous and intense but sold out :(
